I've known of this recruiting campaign for some time now. It happens at just about any big university campus.

It's a nice and easy way pioneers use to count their time.

THE MOTIVES OF GOOD JWS WHO POST ON THIS SITE

while i think it's perfectly okay, i do wonder what motivates jws to post here and especially to also express views critical of ex-jws.

is it the freudian notion of "projection": the jw who denounces something in others that he or she is also guilty of?

hence, if a jw clearly denounces an apostate's faults, it must mean the jw is really against apostasy when it might be something he or she struggles with.

The JWs who consider themselves in 'good standing' only post here in order to count it as 'time in service'.

Little do they know that if the WBTS got wind of them reading, let alone posting, on a website such as this one they'd at the very least be reproved for having association with 'apostates'.

Husbands! Smack your wife across the mouth!

great advice received from a close jw relative who we visited last week.

she said that husbands are the head of the family, and if the wife doesn't support him in serving jehovah then he should give her a good smack across the mouth, thats what she deserves.

if only adam had given eve a good smack across the mouth when she proposed eating the fruit, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now!

Not long ago there is this elder that told my husband, right in front of me!, that he should exercise his headship and force me to do the spiritual things I was supposed to do (go to meetings and service regularly) and that I would thank him later for having saved my life. What a crock of bs!

With a smirk on my face I told this elder very nicely that as long as we recide in the land of the free force doesn't work in my home. You all should've seen the look that elder shot back at me. It was priceless.

As much as I love my hubby, if he tried forcing me to do this boring/pointless stuff I'd leave his butt so fast it'd make his head spin!

oHi, short introduction

glad i found this board and hope to have some interesting discussions.

i'll post my story later today, but in the meantime; i'm a single parent with 2 kids, was a jw for 26 years in total (born one, left at 17 years, went back at 21), became inactive 4 years ago and disassociated myself 4 weeks ago!.

my experience with the bible org.

Why am I so happy?

since i stopped going to meetings about six months ago i have been getting happier and happier and don't know why.

i don't know who god is anymore, or if there is an afterlife.

i don't have as many friends as i used to, though i am starting to build new ones.

I venture a guess that the reason why you're feeling good is because you're now...

1- In control of your own destiny.

2- Not attending a place 5 times per week where they subliminally feed you that nothing and no one is good enough, therefore, you must give more, more, more!

3- No longer concerned with only having friends for as long as you're a JW; even then those friends would look down on you if you're not doing exactly what the WBTS says.

4-Being true to yourself.

my husband was originally scheduled for a conference in new orleans in october, but that was cancelled due to katrina.

they are talking about moving it to miami.

i had been to new orleans a few times and was familar with it, but i don't know a thing about miami.

Disfellowshipped for being fat and not watching my cholesterol

i find the concept of taking select warnings of the medical and science world, to disfellowship members, and ignoring others ... all the more interesting as i think about it.

after all, heart desease is the biggest killer in the americas.

heart desease and heart related deaths are often linked to and not exclusive to; obesity, high cholesterol, fatty foods, not exercising, high stress, etc.. with this in mind, i dare someone to call an elder and report that they saw one of the local witnesses eating at mcdonalds, even though the doctor warned them it could kill them.

The WBTS wouldn't dare touch that subject in all seriousness. They'd have to take privileges away from a whole lot of JWs if they did!

The congregation I seldom attend these days has 90% overweight people.

Poor people find so little joy in their present lives that if they find joy in eating, what the heck..., let them eat cake!
